Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy EventsRemember how Nintendo was showcasing some of their E3 games at participating Best Buy stores around the country? Well, apparently Microsoft employees have been hired to go to these events and preach about the Xbox One and make comments like "why would you buy a outdated Wii U when the Xbox One is right around the corner?"
However, the employees aren't getting what they hoped for. Most customers just start bashing the Xbox One in response. Seriously, Microsoft, the people attending these Best Buy Wii U events are people who are intimately familiar with the crap you pulled at E3. They ain't takin' your shit.
At first I thought this might just be a case of one really loyal Microsoft employee taking matters into his own hands (especially since the original source was /v/), but reports have come in from numerous Best Buy's around the country that indicate many Microsoft employees have ambushed the demo lines trying to persuade people to switch to the Xbox One.

The Used Game ParadigmOver the course of this past generation I've been watching the video game market react to the way it's been forced to deal with increasing changes. I've come out against used game sales and even written a journal about boycotting GameStop because (like most people at the time) I believed they were the root cause of all the problems the video game industry has. But that's something I don't believe now as intently as i did then. From where I sit, piracy and used games sales are a problem, but not in the way game companies want us to believe that they are.
Used games are a good thing for consumers. We get to try games out, and if we don't like what we see or finish it early, we trade it in and try another title instead. It's a very good system for us since video game rentals are much harder to come by. Most video rental stores in America have gone extinct and outside specific Red Box Kiosks there aren't a lot of places for consumers to rent video games. The exception, of course, being thr

Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)

There are two ways to write a novel. Plotting (you make an outline, a plan, a roadmap if you will, and then you sit down and write it) and pantsing (you write "by the seat of your pants, throwing caution to the wind). So when I get asked if I'm a plotter or a pantser, I'm all like er, uh, hold on, let me? Pantser? I think? But I kind of, um, do planny things?
And it gets kind of awkward because in these inarticulate moments I have managed to confuse everyone including myself. And probably spilled a drink.
In recent discussions, however, I've had a bit of a revelation, silly as it is. I've realized that I -- like many writers -- am a plotter/pantser hybrid. And perhaps what I'm doing is something we could call Pantsing Responsibly. And, maybe, just maybe, I could share some of my responsible pantsing tips with other writers. Starting with paper notebooks.

SPIKE updatesJust thought I'd share with you guys some updates on the progress of finishing my "SPIKE" novel.

Watcher's Challenge 10 and Some Special Cats

[EDIT: November 25] What is wrong with people? I got a call around 11:30 this morning from my future daughter-in-law in Mumbai. She phoned to reassure us that she and her family were alright. She didn't know what was happening there, but could hear explosions and gunshots throughout the city. My son and I went online to find out what the news services were saying. So far it has been estimated that 80 people have died in several locations in Mumbai due to organized terrorist attacks. The journalists suggest that the targets, the airport, train station and upscale hotels, showed anger at foreigners visiting India. However, several of the victims were locals who worked in the hotels. The terrorists also blew up a taxi cab. What is the point of all this? There have been several bombings in India over the last few years and nobody has taken credit for many of them. All they have accomplished is mayhem and, of course, fear and panic. There won't be anything positive coming out of this tragedy for anybody.

This is my tenth installment in my Watcher's Challenge. I've gone through the galleries of my watchers and pick my favorite deviation from each one. Thanks! My son and his fiancee went to a city in western India for a couple of weeks. It was only after they got there that her family told him that city was a terrorist stronghold. I'll feel much better once he's safely home, but I think he'd rather be in danger with Ann than safe here without her.
