Original doll creation by Colleen Moore of Port Townsend, Washington. This is one of my sister's older, hand-crafted dolls, which sell for around $200.00. Her newer creations run more to the abstract. She dyes her own fabrics and does all the embroidery by hand. Note the beautiful buttons used for the eyes.

Thank-you! I just got back from visiting her and took a picture of one of her other dolls. I'll be uploading it as soon as I have the chance to go through all our vacation pics.

I completely love it! I adore this kind of folky art - each creation is inimitable and so full of character.
I used to have some friends who lived in a little rural town called Chimacum - to get there, I had to pass through Port Townsend, but all I can remember of it is the sign with blue letters. Two ferries and a long drive to get to there, even though there's physically only about 25 miles between where I live (Everett/Mukilteo) and Port Townsend.

That's a very apt description of Chimacum! It's a one dog logging town. My parents live there. We used to take the Mukilteo ferry going into Seattle, back when PT still had a ferry. My sister complains that Port Townsend isn't important enough to qualify for the money for a replacement. It's really a shame because tourism is their number one industry.

Wow, small world! I live right on the border between Everett and Mukilteo, less than five minutes from the Mukilteo ferry docks. So Port Townsend doesn't have a ferry anymore?

They were without a ferry for several months. I found out when I was there that they have a partial ferry system now. You have to make a reservation to make sure you have a spot on the ferry because they only have one making the run. That has to be devastating to Port Townsend, which depends almost entirely on tourists.

I love how colourfully and wildly she is decorated. The embroidery is fabulous. I'm delighted by the pagan look that this doll has. Thank you Kathleen for posting this wonderful art doll. Your sister is very talented, like you too! :D

Thank-you so much! It's funny that you mention this looking pagan, because her latest set of dolls are all little gods and goddesses. She has a god of war doll and a goddess of geek, and a half dozen others. I'm going to be uploading pics of them soon.
