Anthropomorphism

Anthropomorphism is man’s tendency to assign human emotions to nonhumans. I do that with cats because I’ve seen them starve themselves, mourning for a lost sibling. I’ve seen joyful expressions on their faces. Badger is terrified in this photo. This is her first time being taken out of our bedroom to join the rest of the cats in our family (with the exception of her trip to the vet last week). To make matters worse, I pointed a strange object at her and flashed a bright light in her face. The poor thing sat there shaking afterward until her mother jumped up in the window and lay down beside her.

Badger is the same tortoiseshell kitten shown in “Precious”. Her mother was a stray that we took in when we saw she was pregnant. She is 8 weeks old now, but very tiny for her age. She is available for adoption and has been spayed.
